Marie Harrington, Director 2010 to Present

Marie taught vocal music in the Rockaway Township Public School System, for over 30 years. She is a graduate of Marywood University of Pennsylvania where she obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal music. She also holds a Master's degree in Music Education from Montclair State University. Marie was the Music Minister and Choir Director of St. George R.C. Church in Paterson, NJ and the co-Music Minister at Most Holy Name Church in Garfield, NJ. She served as the vocal music coach for the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center productions of Annie, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Christmas Capers. Currently she works as both organist and vocal soloist at several churches in the Paterson Diocese and the Newark Archdiocese.

 

Evan Tintle Charpentier, Interim Director December 2014 & Spring 2015

The North Jersey Chorus is proud to welcome and introduce interim director, Evan Tintle Charpentier. A Cum Laude graduate of Vassar College in 2003 with a BA double major in music and drama, receiving Honors in Music, Evan holds a Master of Music degree from Montclair State University in 2007. Evan began her study of voice at age thirteen. Her studies have brought her to Spoleto, Italy, for the Spoleto Arts Symposium, and given her the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with such figures as Mira Zakai, Ned Rorem, and Zehava Gall.

She has performed such roles as The Secretary in Menotti‘s The Consul, Queen Elisabeth in scenes from Brittens Gloriana, Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffman, the Soprano in Tom Johnsons contemporary solo piece, Drawers, and the premiere of The Whiskey Pete Cycle, a Joey Gillis composition concerning the use by the U.S. of white phosphorus in Fallujah. An avid theater/musical theater fan, Evan recently performed in the Vagina Monologues and as Lucy in Avenue Q, both with Old Library Theater in Fair Lawn.

In addition to performing, Evan has also taught voice and piano for studios in Denville, Wayne, Pompton Lakes, and Cliffside Park; she now teaches at the Olive Tree Music Academy, in Morristown, and privately out of Garfield. Evan is an accomplished liturgical musician, having worked as a section leader and soloist for the United Methodist Church of Bernardsville; currently, she is the Music Director for Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church in Garfield. Evan is very pleased and grateful to step in for Marie Harrington for the upcoming performance of “A Holiday Quilt” and deeply enjoys her time working with the choristers of North Jersey.

Christine Vella Lovette
, Director 2002 - 2010 - A graduate of Indiana University School of Music, Christine holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and has done graduate work in choral conducting. She trained as a classical pianist and choral conductor having studied with renowned musicians Evelyne Brancart, Michael Block, Jan Harrington and Thomas Dunn. Throughout her career, Christine has won prestigious competitions, giving her the opportunity to perform in the PNC Arts Center and Carnegie’s Weill Hall. She performed musical direction and accompaniment for the 75th anniversary production of Man of La Mancha by the Radburn Players of Fair Lawn. She has served as the voice coach on the voice faculty of the Garden State Academy of Music in Rutherford, NJ. Christine served 8 years as Director of the North Jersey Chorus. Currently, she is the Minister of Music at Ramapo Valley Baptist Church in Oakland, NJ. Christine and her husband Tracey are the proud parents of Kayla and Jordan who have both performed as North Jersey Chorus Kids.
