Membership
Members of The North Jersey Chorus are men and women from surrounding communities who are of many different talents and backgrounds and who come together to sing and be with other people who enjoy singing, often finding the experience to be a good outlet for creative energy. Membership offers the chance to grow musically by working with a professionally trained conductor and accompanist, while sharing camaraderie and friendship.
Although reading music is helpful, it is not mandatory. Prior experience with choral singing is also helpful but not mandatory. Formal auditions are not required; however, new members may be asked by the conductor to sing a scale to determine voice range, ability to match pitch and placement within the group.
Making a commitment in the spirit of teamwork is the basis on which the group is organized and members strive to contribute to the overall progress of the group. Occasionally, social events, such as a picnic, are held outside the rehearsal schedule. Guests of chorus members are included for events like this. Fundraising events are sometimes planned too, with all members volunteering their time and energy. The proceeds from fundraising events help to support the music scholarship fund.
Membership dues are collected each season to defray the cost of new music.
